Imagine saying ‘I do’ with the Mediterranean sea as your backdrop… It sounds like a dream but it’s probably more realistic than you think. With cute little chapels, breathtaking views, beaches and sunshine all year round; it just doesn’t get any better than this!
Breathtaking Scenery & Romantic Atmosphere

Malta offers the best of both worlds. Combining historic charm with coastal beauty, Malta is the perfect backdrop for your wedding pictures, celebration and a little vacation. Let’s take a look at our favourite locations:
- Mdina
This is for the fairytale lovers among us. Romance with a dash of medieval mystery, Mdina is the place for you. This small town doesn’t just look cute, it has a wide variety of venues. From small (Michelin star) restaurants to hidden courtyards, Mdina has it all. - Valletta
This city is not only the capital of Malta, but also recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Think iconic balconies, breathtaking architecture, location of the oldest church in Malta, and lots of nightlife with cute little bars and hidden gems. - Gozo
The sister island of Malta can be reached within 30 minutes with the ferry. It’s the perfect weekend get-away for many Maltese inhabitants with its quiet and rural scenes. Which makes it perfect for your wedding!
The best thing about Malta, is that from any location on the island you can see the most breathtaking sunsets. If you’re looking for the perfect golden-hour vibe to go with your wedding pictures, Malta is just right for you!
Perfect weather all year round

Did you know Malta has 300 days of sun per year? That leaves little to no days left for bad weather to ruin your day! We recommend anytime between April and September – October. July and August can become scorching hot (up to 45 degrees Celsius), making it a lot less comfortable. And let’s be honest, you don’t come to Malta to then have a wedding indoors in the AC.
If you’re not too picky about the temperatures, you can pick any time during winter as well. Since Malta is located between North-Africa and Southern Europe, it has very mild winters. November, December have pleasant temperatures (often up to 20 degrees) and January – March between 10 – 15 degrees. No snow, just sunshine and a lot more opportunities to host your wedding outside the busy and expensive summer season.
Diverse and affordable wedding venues
With 316 km², Malta is one of the smallest countries in the world. But this doesn’t limit the island what so ever. In fact, with around 359 churches, cathedrals and chapels alone, you would have enough to choose from for your ceremony. But even for your reception of after-party, this island holds many hidden gems. A small island comes with small restaurants. This makes it super easy and affordable to rent out a entire restaurant for your wedding. Which is also one of the rising wedding trends in 2025 (just FYI).

You can get creative and get married in open air on the cliffs, at the beach or in local gardens. From luxury resorts and 7.000-year-old historic venues, to rustic vineyard weddings and beachfront vows,… The opportunities are endless.
Simple and stress-free legal process
Did you know Malta is one of the easiest countries to get married in as a foreigner? There’s no residency needed to get married in Malta. You need to fill out the online documents at least 6 months before the wedding. Upon arrival you pass by the Wedding Registry with your passports to finalise everything for the big day. And you don’t need to get married in an office either, as everything can be officiated at the venue.
Your ceremony is internationally recognised by most countries, so no paperwork* to be done back home. Besides that, your wedding certificate is provided in English! This means that no certified translation is needed when you get back home.**
*We do recommend you check your local rules when it comes to the legal binding of a wedding abroad.
**Again, please check this locally as it depends what country you’re traveling from.
When you’re choosing Malta as your wedding destination, both a civil or religious ceremony an possibility. So whatever your vibe or preference is, there’s something for everyone. Also same-sex marriages are officially recognised in Malta!
Pre- and post-wedding activities

Are you looking for more than just a wedding destination? Maybe you want to combine it with your honeymoon or a fun getaway with your closest people.
1. Boat trips and island hopping
Escape the business of Malta and go to Gozo for some well deserved rest after your celebrations. Whether you rent a farmhouse or a boutique hotel to unwind, Gozo offers the calm and serenity you need. For the ultimate luxury experience you can even rent your own boat to get a private tour of the islands. Some venues even offer packages with a boat (!!!).
2. History and culture
As we mentioned before in this article, Malta might be small but has so much to offer. From the medieval wonders of Mdina to temples older than the pyramids!
3. Food and wine experiences
Being so close to Italy, it won’t come as a surprise that Malta has its very own vineyards. Not only can you rent these out for your wedding, but you can also enjoy vineyard tours and wine tastings.
Malta also counts 7 Michelin star restaurants (located in Sliema, St. Julians, Valletta and Mdina). A bit too expensive for your taste? Try out the lovely restaurants that were awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide. This is a just-as-esteemed rating that recognises friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices.
But you don’t need to dine at a Michelin restaurant, as Malta offers a wide variety of lovely local restaurants. The Mediterranean style cuisine is known for dishes like rabbit stew, bragioli (slowly braised bundles of beef), lampuki (fried local fish), Aljotta (Maltese fish soup) and of æcourse Pastizzi.
4. Wedding + honeymoon combo
Whether you are eloping or you just want to keep it small and intimate, a destination wedding is the ideal excuse to combine it with your honeymoon. It’s not to say you have to stay in the same country you are getting married in. But it’s a possibility. And in the case of Malta, it’s an opportunity! You can cut travel costs and you can enjoy your time afterwards to unwind post-wedding.
Malta is waiting for you
As you can tell, Malta is a small island but filled with endless opportunities. From beach weddings to medieval towns, Mediterranean cuisine and hundreds of chapels to get married in, Malta has it all.
