Quality over quantity

Fewer guests will help you save money. If you’re having a hard time putting together a guest list within budget, try to limit to closest friends and family only. We know, drawing a line with family is not easy. Try to balance it out by limiting to people who know you both. Don’t invite people you still need to introduce to your husband on the wedding day. If you haven’t met before, it probably means you shouldn’t be meeting for the first time at your own wedding. If you are not paying or your parents are chipping in, stress that you want to keep it intimate. If you’re paying yourself, you ultimately have the last say in it.

If you need help with calculating your budget vs. your guest list, we can help you with that! Get in touch for a free consultation.

Choosing the right venue

Malta is known for big and grand weddings. So when browsing for venues, you’ll notice that a lot of them cater for bigger groups. Don’t pay for what you don’t use. If a venue offers a single space rather than the whole venue, this is be worth looking into. You won’t have the exclusivity of having the place for yourself, but it will cost you a lot less.

For wedding venues, it makes a very big difference to choose an off-season weekday as your special day. These are less likely to be chosen, vendors often have promotions to incentivise filling up those days in their calendar.

Another choice is to opt for a restaurant. Contrary to a venue, you don’t need to coordinate decorations, different vendors, live entertainment, a band, flowers, beverage packages, mixologists,… everything is done in-house. You pay the beverages per what you use and you can pick and mix your menu. In Malta there are plenty of restaurants that cater for events, with even exclusivity of a whole restaurant. We can help you navigate what makes most sense for your event.

A picture is worth a 1000 words

One thing you don’t want to save money on for your small and intimate wedding, is a good photographer. Especially when you are surrounded by your core-people, you want to get enough and good pictures of those memories. Your grandpa watching your first dance, the memories of your sister’s little ones running around, having fun at your wedding,… A good photographer is worth more than getting that extra decor because those you’ll keep those pictures for a lifetime.

A lot of couples opt for a videographer as well to make the images come to life. Although this is not a must, having all the speeches on video, your first dance, your ceremony,… pictures can only capture so much. Knowing that your loved ones don’t live forever, having their voice captured in such an intimate setting, makes a difference.

If a videographer is not within your budget, but you want to capture the voices of your loved ones, an audio guestbook is the solution for you. You can rent an audio guestbook with Micro Weddings Malta for the duration of your whole wedding. With an audio guestbook you have a phone set up with a personalised voicemail. This system gives your guests the opportunity to ‘leave a message after the beep’. It’s a unique way to commemorate such a lovely day, and maybe even get some funny drunk messages on recording.

small Saving hacks

These hacks won’t make your budget a lot bigger, but they do add up. We made a list of small changes you can make, to maximise your budget even more:

  • Create digital invitations rather than printed ones.
(we can make those for you as well)
  • Buy flowers in packs per dozen, not as arrangements.
  • Focus on key decor elements and keep it simple.
(candles, fairylights and greenery goes a long way)
  • Make use of what the venue is offering you, free = free.
